About PDRN
How PDRN Works
PDRN binds to adenosine A2A receptors in dermal fibroblasts — activating cellular repair pathways that increase collagen production, reduce inflammation, and stimulate new blood vessel formation.
The effects build over several weeks as the skin responds to repeated treatment. Understanding the biological process helps set realistic expectations — PDRN is not an instant fix. It works by giving the dermis the signals it needs to repair and regenerate on its own.
5-Step Cellular Process
Step 01: Injection Into the Dermis
PDRN is delivered via fine-gauge needle or cannula into the mid-to-deep dermis — the skin layer where fibroblasts (collagen-producing cells) live. The injection depth and technique vary by product, area, and practitioner preference.
Step 02: Receptor Activation
Once in the dermis, PDRN fragments bind to adenosine A2A receptors on fibroblast cell surfaces. A2A receptor activation is the key biological event. It shifts the cell's behaviour from a resting state toward active tissue repair.
Step 03: Collagen Synthesis Increases
Activated fibroblasts upregulate production of type I and type III collagen — the structural proteins that give skin its firmness and elasticity. This process takes weeks, which is why results appear gradually and continue improving after each session.
Step 04: Inflammation Reduces
A2A receptor activation also suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokines including TNF-alpha and IL-6. In patients with chronically inflamed or reactive skin, this anti-inflammatory effect is one of the most clinically meaningful outcomes of PDRN treatment.
Step 05: Improved Microcirculation
PDRN increases VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) expression, which stimulates formation of new capillaries in the treated tissue. Better microcirculation means more oxygen and nutrients reaching the skin cells, supporting ongoing repair.
What Changes and When
| Timeframe | What Typically Happens |
|---|---|
| Days 1–3 | Mild redness and swelling at injection sites. Skin reacts to treatment. |
| Weeks 1–2 | Inflammation settles. Early hydration improvement may be visible. |
| Weeks 3–4 | Collagen synthesis underway. Skin texture begins to improve. |
| 4–8 weeks | Visible improvement in skin quality — texture, tone, firmness, radiance. |
| After full course | Cumulative results. Sustained improvement with maintenance sessions. |
How Many Sessions Are Needed?
A typical initial course is three to four sessions, spaced two to four weeks apart. Each session builds on the last as collagen accumulates and skin repair continues. After the initial course, most people maintain results with one to two sessions every three to six months.
